Glencoe

Voted as Scotland’s most romantic glen, get ready to be moved by the sheer beauty and tragic tales of Glencoe. With a tumultuous past and the result of an ice age glacier along with a super-volcano it has created for the ultimate blockbuster backdrop with movies such as Harry Potter, Braveheart and Sky Fall all being filmed at this Scottish landmark.

Surrounded by steep sided Munros, Glencoe has some of the best of Scotland’s Hiking routes. A great way to enjoy the magnificent Glencoe is a hike over the Devils Staircase, a route that follows the old military road that once headed to Fort William - the trail is part of the famous West Highland Way.

Ben Nevis Viewpoint

C

Ben Nevis Viewpoint

At 1,345 metres tall Ben Nevis is Britain’s highest mountain. Sitting majestically at the head of Loch Linnhe, its presence is seen from all corners of Fort William. Once however, the top of Ben Nevis was actually the bottom of a large crater. Mountain Walks at Nevis Range can lead to panoramic viewpoints which on a clear day can extend as far as the Inner Hebrides. The chilling wind may be evident on the summit of the Ben Nevis however with an increase of latitude the climate can be considered similar to Arctic regions.

Mountain trails are signposted and start at the Gondola Top Station. There are easier walks which allow all visitors to experience the true magnificence and ruggedness of the Scottish Highlands.
